The first of five Par 5s at Mammoth Dunes features a generous fairway lined by a massive sand dune on the left. There is no trouble on the right, but approaching from the left will offer a better angle for the second shot. The fairway narrows significantly around the green, placing a premium on accuracy for the second shot. The green is perched atop a mound. Left pin-placements require a delicate touch: any approach shot hit too far will roll down into the collection area, yielding a short-sided chip back up the hill.
